Numeracy Intervention

What is Numeracy Intervention?

Clear and focused support to help students catch up on basic n umber skills- usually for those who are quite behind or have learning difficulties in maths.

Intervention can take place either before or after a formal diagnosis-and in many cases, both.

Main Focus:

  • Diagnostic assessment to find gaps

  • Re-teaching core concepts like place value, number sense, and operations

  • Using research-based programs or strategies (e.g., manipulatives, small steps, multisensory methods)

  • Often intensive and short-to-medium term

Who it’s for:

  • Students with persistent difficulties in numeracy

  • Those performing well below grade level

  • Often identified by schools or psychologists as needing an intervention plan

Analogy:
More like physiotherapy after an injury—it’s about repairing and rebuilding, not just strengthening.
